A PLACE LIKE THIS
The foundation for HPH’s future in Hernando County is literally being laid on our West Hernando campus off State Road 50 in Brooksville. That’s because land is now being cleared so that HPH can build a 24-suite Hernando Hospice Care Center modeled after the Marliere Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey. It’s expected that the Hernando Hospice Care Center will be ready to serve the community in 2009.
While the 13-bed Hospice Care Center that’s now located in a private wing of Brooksville Health Care Center has flourished since its opening in 2000, it’s time to build “A Place Like This” on the West Hernando campus. That’s the capital campaign slogan that HPH is utilizing. After the Hernando Hospice Care Center opens, there will no longer be the need to operate the original Care Center in downtown Brooksville.
HPH Care Centers are typically intended for hospice patients who need specialized, round- the-clock care because of acute medical needs. Additionally, most of these individuals have a prognosis that can be measured in weeks or days rather than months. With this in mind, each patient suite will be comfortably and attractively furnished with ample space for family members who want to spend the night or stay for the duration. In this way, patients and family members will equally benefit from the in-patient and residential hospice experience that HPH offers. Fully carpeted and wallpapered suites will have direct access to a semi-private patio via French doors. A park-like setting will incorporate lush landscaping, benches, gazebos, fountains, and memorial brick walkways.
Roomy nurses’ stations staffed by hospice clinicians will be on each of the Care Center wings so that patients and families are assured that highly individualized care, attention, and support is available any hour of the day or night. The Hernando Hospice Care Center will also have a quiet room ideal for contemplation, counseling, and/or prayers while children can entertain themselves with books, blocks, or movies in a playroom. Families and visitors will always be welcome in one of two dining areas flanking the large country kitchen. The latter will be managed by HPH staff cooks and dedicated volunteers who will prepare homemade meals and snacks, adding an extra touch of home.
Land and construction costs for the Hernando Hospice Care Center will total about $6 million. With the support of HPH’s Board of Directors, our goal is to secure community and corporate support to fund $1 million in project costs. We invite you to consider a gift to support “A Place Like This” that will enable us to better serve our Hernando County residents. It’s a place like this that will make you proud.
